The Project
“Architecture is not about space but about time,” – Vito Acconci
Our memories are left behind in a structure once we pass through it. Over time, the proof became apparent through worn-out, rusty door handles, bent fences, and unbalanced
staircases.
Architectural environments build up memories just like people do: they see, hear, and respond. The Memory Radio is a project that enables the audience to engage with, visualize, and hear the memories that have been left behind in the location where they are standing.
The project includes a device, a camera, a speaker, and a number of frosted acrylic panels to be used as projection surfaces. At the commencement of the exhibition, the live recording of the exhibition space begins.
The audience is invited to hover their palm over the device to turn it on. As soon as the device is turned on, remnants of memories (live recording footages) from the location where the audience was standing will become visible and projected on the frosted acrylic panels. The audience is asked to then turn the knob to any time in the past and listen for any sounds or silhouettes that were left behind.
